Tanjong Malim, 24 October – A total of 5,182 graduates received their respective diplomas and degrees during the 19th UPSI Convocation Ceremony which was held at the Tuanku Canselor Hall for three days beginning on the 24th and ending on the 26th of October 2017.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohammed Shatar Sabran, during the first session, which was officiated by Her Royal Highness, The Queen of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim, as the Chancellor of UPSI, the institution handed out Awards of Excellence to 45 graduates among them, The Royal Education Awards, The Chancellor’s Gold Medal, The University’s Board of Directors Gold Medal, The Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal, The International Student Academic Excellence Awards (Ph.D category), The International Student Academic Excellence Awards (Master’s category), The International Student Academic Excellence Awards (Bachelor’s category), The MSEAM Education Leadership Thesis Awards and the Bitara Awards.
He also added that the ceremony coincides with the appointment of the new Pro Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Alimuddin Haji Mohd Dom who is replacing Tan Sri Yahaya Ibrahim who had been acquitted from the post last August, the bestowment of the Honorary Doctorate in Management to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor, the bestowal of Honorary Doctorate in Volunteerism to Encik Ahmad Sani Araby Dato’ Abdul Alim Araby and the bestowal of the Professor Emeritus title to Professor Dr. Muhammad Bukhari Lubis.
In order to make the event so much more festive, UPSI also organized a Convocation Fiesta which held at the main stage of the fiesta’s site with an assortment of interesting programmes such as the “Karnival Sukan Rakyat,” Medic Hour (a blood donation and dental check-up session), the “Pendidikan Khas Integriti Go Green” programme along with the people of UPSI, Islamic Medication Seminar, A Battle Without Weapons showcase, UPSI Soaring Upwards: Zero to Hero, and Forum Hal Ehwal Islam spearheaded by Tn Hj. Harith Fadzilah (JAIPk) and Ustazah Nazirah (JAKIM).
