UPSI, 20 January–UPSI’s own Culture Centre organize for “Anugerah Seni Majlis Kebudayaan Universiti-Universiti Malaysia” (MAKUM 2018) as a token of appreciation for the students and staffs of MAKUM for upholding the art scene in their respective public universities.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student and Alumni Affairs, Associate Professor Dr. Md Amin Md Taff stated that UPSI has served as the secretariat and host for two years in a row beginning in 2016 and continuing into 2017.
“Throughout the period, an assortment of programs and competitions held by UPSI has garnered very encouraging feedbacks from students studying in Public Higher Learning Institute all over the country.”
“Therefore, as a token of appreciation for all students and staff participation, UPSI took the initiative to organize the event which in turn, would encourage growth in talent scouting and to build a student’s confidence to compete on an international level,” he elaborated at the event held at Experimental Theater.
He also added that the ‘Warna Warni 1 Malaysia’ theme should be upheld in order to maintain and improve the patriotic spirit within students of different race and religion.
“The inter-racial stability in relations is of paramount importance in order to propel the university as a global force to be reckoned with. As we have undoubtedly surmised, the passage of time has consistently left of our heritage in the ruins, and the matter is currently not being sufficiently stressed upon at the university level.”
“Therefore, in order to spark the interest of students in MAKUM’s future activities, MAKUM officials must be even more efficient in executing their duties so that the event could be a catalyst to the development of the artistic culture amongst students in Public Universities,” he further elaborated.
During the ceremony, UPSI handed a Special Appreciation Award to the Deputy Secretary General (Development) of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Profesor Madya Dr. Md Amin Md Taff thus putting Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia as the recipient of the Gong Kencana Award for Outstanding Cultural Show.
Other recipients include 38 Anugerah Bonang Emas Award winners (for students with outstanding and active participations), 18 Gambang Mustika Award winners (for clubs and societies with outstanding and active participations), five Kalung Budi Award recipients (for individuals who either directly or indirectly contributed to the development of MAKUM or for MAKUM officials who will end their services), and six Sejuta Penghargaan Awards recipients, (for individuals who has aided the either the university or MAKUM the most throughout 2016-2017).
Also organized were the handing over ceremony of the Staff of Leadership toward Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and the gifting ceremony for the MAKUM Logo Creation Competition which was won by Muhammad Alif Omar Abdul Jalil from USIM.
