Sungkai: 14th July 2020, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) Malaysia conducted an event in collaboration with SMK Sungkai, Perak to distribute tablet computers to 45 students of the school due to the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination that will be held in January 2021.

 

The main focus for this project is to improve academic achievement for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination of the year 2020. Other than that, it is to build morals and motivation for the students to choose their paths of employment for the students to focus on their future. Out of 23 schools in the district of Batang Padang, 4 schools are selected for this EmpowerNCER Programme and SMK Sungkai is one of them.

According to Professor Madya Dr.Norkhalid bin Salihin from UPSI, the students have to focus on the 5 important subjects, which are Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science, and Pendidikan Islam or Morals. The tablets have been preloaded with offline education materials and tutorials for the subjects including videos and notes. However, some of the features have been locked to avoid the students from browsing and using unnecessary application.

The tablets need to be returned back after the SPM examination. However, they will be given to the students as gifts if they are able to increase their grades in SPM.
