UPSI, Tanjong Malim- The planning of university-level courses in entrepreneurship and economics is seen as a crucial endeavor to give students the necessary information and abilities to meet the problems of the future economy. UPSI not only provides entrepreneurship courses, but also creates student entrepreneurship clusters that can be utilized by organizing high-impact programs.
On January 31, students from Bachelor of Education (Chemistry), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) programme organised Cockroach vs Unicorn: A Showcase of Entrepreneurial Magic at Sultan Azlan Shah Campus with aims to cultivate and develop the entrepreneurial skills among students by producing and marketing their DIY product through various social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
This program runs for 14 weeks and involves several processes, such as establishing mock start-up, invent creative products related to STEM, financial management, sales and marketing. This product development is fully monitored by Dr. Suzaliza Mustafar and Dr. Nurulsaidah Abdul Rahim. During this 14-week period, students polish their critical thinking skills in developing ideas, efficient money management, and communication skills in the product marketing phase.
28 products from various areas such as cosmetics, agriculture, health care and education were exhibited during the day. Some of them already gain some profit from their sales. Students positively appreciate experience and knowledge gained throughout the learning process to establish their own mock start-up. During this programme, the evaluation session was conducted by Mohd Zurin Mahmood and Johana Jumiran who have extensive experience in business.
Indeed, this programme successfully achieved its objective to exhibit students’ entrepreneurial skills. Moreover, this programme also aims to incubate young entrepreneurs as a catalyst for start-up ecosystems.
