Kuala Lumpur, 13th May – UPSI once again recorded an unprecedented success during the International Design, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2018 which took place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) with 10 gold, three silver and one bronze medals respectively.

Three gold medals were obtained through the results of researchers’ innovation from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts entitled E-Critical Reflection Manual for Coaches and Supervisors and SPECTROMORPHOLOGICAL NOTATION: Notating Musical Timbre of Non-Standardized Musical Instrument led by Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Hassan Abdullah, and the product entitled Malaysian Music Score Arrangements for a Western Classical Ensemble which was headed by Dr. Karen Anne Lonsdale.

The next gold contribution were obtained through two projects from the National Children’s Development Research Center (NCDRC) namely the NATIONAL CHILD DATA CENTER (NCDC) MOBILE APPS headed by Prof. Dr. Sopia Md Yassin and NATIONAL CHILD DATA CENTER (NCDC) – CHILD DEVELOPMENT, ALERT & HEALTH MODULES by Dr. Suzani Mohamad Samuri.

Researchers from the Faculty of Human Development took two gold and two silver medals through the Zero to Hero – 5 Integrated Learning Skills Module product led by Mr. Ab. Aziz Mohd Yatim, and Prodigy Career Exploration Kits (Pro-Cares) product which was headed by Dr. Noraini Ismail, while the silver medal were garnered through LITERACY LEARNING product using AUGMENTED REALITY which was developed by Prof. Madya Dr. Noor Aini Ahmad and Tools for Teaching and Learning products in the 21st Century Primary Mathematics Classroom were spearheaded by Dr. Siti Rahaimah Ali.

The Faculty of Computer Science and Creative Industry also helped UPSI garner two gold medals through products entitled i-Pocket: Mobility E-Learning led by Prof. Madya Dr. Muhammad Modi Lakulu, and A Novel Smart Multi-Sustainable System for Virtualized the Best Applicants by Optimizing Their Abilities Level Using University Recorded Data and SWEBOk.V3 by Dr. Aos Alaa Zaidan while JAWI STAMP FOR KID (Jaws4kid) product headed by Dr. Ridzuan Hussin garnered a silver medal.

The tenth gold medal was contributed by the Faculty of Science and Mathematics researcher led by Dr. Tho Siew Wei through the product entitled Free Fall Investigation through Innovative Use of Mobile Devices for Physics Education.

Meanwhile the bronze medals were obtained through the E – LKPS product: Progress Report on Graduate Studies on the Online Initiative from Human Resource Division led by Mrs. Azzah Abdul Latiff.

UPSI was also awarded the bronze medal for the International Booth Design category of the brainchild of the Intellectual Property and Commercialization Unit and the Research and Management Innovation Centre (RMIC) led by Deputy Director, Professor. Madya Dr. Hanisom Abdullah.

A total of 8 booths have been contested and the first-time participations were proven successful when UPSI is ranked third.

ITEX 2018 has come up with the theme ‘Invigorate Your Creativity’ to give aspiring inventors the platform to share ideas of solutions or innovations that can improve the quality of life. It highlights more than 1,000 inventions spanning 20 countries including China, Germany, Turkey and Korea.

Some of the main attractions are the organizing of the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE), the Asia Young Inventors Exhibition (AYIE), the Malaysian Young Inventors Exhibition (MYIE), the PITCH4FUND session, the beginner entrepreneurship seminar and the venture capital talks to entrepreneurs (VC2E).

At ITEX 2017, UPSI managed to earn 5 gold and 9 silver medals from 14 participating entries.
