Tanjong Malim, 16 July 2025 – The Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) had the privilege of hosting distinguished representatives from Yamaha Japan and Yamaha Malaysia.
The delegation comprised Ms. Yuna Shigi, Representative from Yamaha Japan; Ms. Tomomi Hibino, a Music Educator Project Support specialist based in Malaysia; and Mr. Mohd Haswani bin Hassan, Malaysia Yamaha Program Coordinator for Public School Music Development.
Deputy Dean of Academic and Internationalization, Dr. Christine Augustine; Head of Music and Music Education Department, Dr. Mohd Yusran Mohd Yusoff; and coordinator Dr. Wong Huey Yi @ Colleen Wong were present.
This meeting marked an important step in developing a strategic collaboration between Yamaha Malaysia and UPSI, with a specific emphasis on enhancing the educational role of the recorder in Malaysian music education, as it is a key instrument in the national primary school curriculum.
The exchange of ideas during the session laid a strong foundation for a long-term partnership to support the growth of music education across different educational levels.
As a leading educational institution, UPSI foresees playing a crucial role in supporting music educators not only within the university but also across Perak and Malaysia.

This collaboration creates opportunities for future workshops, conferences, and outreach programs, bringing quality music instruction and innovation directly to schools nationwide with Yamaha’s support and expertise.
A discussion about the upcoming masterclass was held for the benefit of our diploma and degree-level music students, providing them with valuable exposure to international standards in music pedagogy and performance.
