UPSI, 24 October – Six of the region’s most famous celebrities received a diploma and degree from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in conjunction with the 19th Convocation Ceremony which was held at the Tuanku Canselor Hall recently.

Habiburahman El Shirazy, a novelist best known for his magnum opus “Ayat-Ayat Cinta” received a Master’s Degree in Researching during the first session of the ceremony.He is also known as a filmmaker, evangelist, poet, literary, the head of a religious school and public speaker. His works are a subject of intrigue in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei , Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, and the Muslim community in the United States of America.

Famous lyricist,  Hairul Anuar Harun also received his degree during the first session which was officiated by Her Royal Highness, The Queen of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim, who also serves as the Chancellor of UPSI. The Pulau Pinang born, Kuala Kurau, Perak raised lyricist first garnered attention and acclaim after selling his first composition, “Awallah Dondang” which was sung by Noraniza Idris.

African native, Kaiho Rikambura, received his Master’s Degree in Education (Information Technology) with Honours, during the second session. He was propelled into mainstream popularity after his videos became viral hits both on Youtube and social media. Apart from being fluent in Malay, he is able to converse in six different languages which included English, Indonesian, Mandarin and two dialects from his native Afrikaans.

Nur Khairunnisya Zulfakar may not have been a household name just yet but she already had cameo appearances in a multitude of popular dramas such as “Tuan Ihsan” (Ep:18) as a child labour specialist based in Dubai, “Suri Hati Mr. Pilot” (Ep:18) as Warda’s (a role played by Neelofa) Neighbour, “Diari Cinta Kita” (Ep:20) as the fourth suitor, “GF Aku Amnesia” as a psychiatrist and “Hati Perempuan” (Ep 14) as Tengku Zarif’s friend. She is awarded with a Master’s Degree in Education (Coaching Sciences) during the fifth session.

Also attending the ceremony are Mohamad Rozaimi Rosli also known as Along Mentor and Masrazman Md Mahayuddin, the finalist for “Hero Remaja”. They both received a Diploma in Music during the third session.
