Tanjung Malim, 23 October – In conjunction with the 19th Convocation Ceremony, Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) named Tan Sri Haji Alimuddin Hj Mohd Dom as the new Pro-Chancellor.

This is following the end of term for Tan Sri Yahaya Ibrahim, who was acquitted from the post last August. The ceremony was officiated by Her Royal Highness, The Queen of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim, as the Chancellor of UPSI.

Tan Sri Haji Alimuddin Hj Mohd Dom is a graduate of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in the field of Education Management and has served in the field of education for nearly 35 years now.

Throughout his service as Director General of Education (KPPM), he has actively spearheaded many policies, rules and guidelines to elevate the quality of education.

Among the policies he enacted are, the Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening Command of English,introduced the Sekolah Agama Bantuan Kerajaan (SABK) policy, revised and upgraded syllabus for the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), introduced the 10 Subjects Limit for the Malaysian Certificate of Education examinations (SPM) Policy, the History A Must Pass Subject for the Malaysian Certificate of Education examinations (SPM) Policy, the Re-branding Of The Term “Form Six” Policy, the One Student, One Sport Policy and introduced the Thai Student Exchange Programme in Malaysia.

His credibility as a leader in education continues to shine following his retirement as he continues to hold positions that spans several institutions such as the Chairman For the Board of Directors, Sultan Zainal Abidin University (UniSZA) Terengganu branch; Chairman, Cybernetics International College Kuala Lumpur; Pro-Chancellor,  Bestari University College (Terengganu branch); Chairman for the Board of Supervisors, Taylor’s International School; Chairman of the Trust Fund Holders, the Malaysian Teacher’s Foundation (YGMB); Chairman of the Damai Sejahtera Malaysia Foundation and was appointed to join the National Education Board of Councils, Ministry of Education Malaysia.

Due to his many contributions across many endeavours, he was knighted as Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) in 2007 and Panglima Setia Mahkota in 2009. He was also awarded The Main Figure for Leadership in the Academic Landscape for both the county of  Manjung and the state of Perak in 2013, a special award for the Maal Hijrah ceremony in Perak (2013) and the Main Figure in the Leadership of  National Education in 2014.
