Thailand- A group of 35 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) embarked on an enriching international journey at Thaksin University, Pathalung Campus, Thailand, from October 29th to November 5th, 2023. During this program, students from the Bachelor of Sports Science (Sports Rehabilitation) program, Muay Thai Club, and several UPSI Student Representative Council were introduced to the intricacies of Sports Massage by renowned expert, Dr. Whittaya and introducing the “Whittaya Way”.

In-Depth Learning Experience: Under the expert guidance of Dr. Whittaya, a seasoned professional in sports massage with an impressive clientele spanning several countries, students were immersed in an intensive learning experience. The program kicked off with a theoretical session, followed by practical training, revealing an approach: the use of cold lotion instead of oil in sports massage. This revelation aligns with the effective reduction of swelling, a common concern in sports-related injuries.

Collaborative Environment: Despite varying levels of prior experience, students collaborated with Thaksin University peers, lecturers, and university staff. This collaborative spirit fostered an optimal learning atmosphere, allowing everyone to grasp and apply the techniques effectively. The students expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality and support provided by Thaksin University throughout their stay.

Diverse Program Highlights: Beyond sports massage, the program encompassed diverse activities, enhancing the students’ overall experience. Participants indulged in traditional Thai massage, explored the art of Muay Thai in a basic course, and enjoyed an adventurous kayaking session, and immersing themselves in Thailand’s rich cultural and recreational offerings.

Exploring Nature’s Wonders: Other than academic activities, students in the program also have the visit to Talay Noi Wetland, where students were captivated by the region’s natural beauty and ecological diversity. This excursion allowed them to connect with the environment, broadening their perspective on the significance of nature in general health and well-being in sports and rehabilitation.

Gratitude and Anticipation: Expressing their appreciation, the students extended their heartfelt thanks to Thaksin University for hosting them and creating an environment conducive to learning and cultural exchange. The gained insights and experiences are expected to shape their future endeavors in sports rehabilitation, instilling confidence and expertise in their practice. In the wake of this transformative international program, the UPSI students return home equipped not only with newfound knowledge and skills but also with cherished memories of camaraderie, learning, and cultural immersion, marking this experience as a pivotal moment in their academic journey.
