Kampung Sg. Selisek, 28 May 2025 (Wednesday) – A group of ten students from DSC2013 course at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris successfully organised and conducted the CyberSAFE: “Lindungi Diri Dalam Dunia Siber” program at Sekolah Agama Menengah Sungai Selisek. This meaningful initiative involved more than one hundred students from Form One to Form Three. The main objectives of the program were to raise awareness about the importance of cyber safety in education, to implement cyber awareness activities within learning institutions, and to assess the effectiveness of such programs in preventing digital threats among teenagers.

The program began with an insightful talk by Mrs. Anpasrul, a representative from Maybank, entitled “What is Scam”. She introduced students to common online scams in Malaysia, including investment fraud, identity theft, impersonation calls, and phishing. Mrs. Anpasrul explained how scammers exploit social media and digital platforms to steal personal data, often without victims realizing it. She highlighted the urgency of awareness by stating, “In 2024 alone, Malaysia recorded over 33,000 scam cases involving financial losses exceeding RM1.3 billion”. The session also provided practical tips and preventive strategies to help students stay alert and safe in the digital world.

Following the talk, students took part in an engaging activity called Scam Explorace. This
segment of the program was fully designed and led by the UPSI students and included three
creative and interactive stations named “Scam Survivor, Memory Card Anti-Scam, and Spot the
Scam Dodge the MOO”. These stations challenged participants to apply their knowledge about
scams through tasks that encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and real-life decision making.
The hands-on experience created a fun yet educational environment that helped reinforce what
students had learned earlier in the day.

The program left a significant impact on the students who are now more alert and informed
about common scams and how to respond if they ever become victims. They gained practical
knowledge about identifying threats, protecting their digital presence, and contacting relevant
authorities such as banks and the National Scam Response Center. Furthermore, students
became more cautious when using applications and social media platforms, understanding that
many scam tactics are hidden in these everyday tools.
The school expressed its appreciation to the students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
for their leadership and dedication and looks forward to more collaborative efforts in nurturing
a generation that is digitally literate and cyber aware.
