Kuala Lumpur, 8th December 2024 – Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) recently hosted a Vocal HealthWorkshop, presented in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO). The workshop brought together over 30 participants from several prominent institutions, including the University of Malaya (UM), UniversitiPutra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and KLCO, creating a vibrant and diverse learning environment.

Led by Dr. Yap Jin Hin, an accomplished vocalist and pedagogue, along with associate lecturers Dr. Flory Ann Mansor Gingging, Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Safian and Prof. Madya Dr. Kamarulzaman bin Mohamed Karim, the two-hour workshop focused on the essential principles of maintaining vocal health and achieving optimal vocal performance. Through an engaging combination of an informative presentation and live demonstrations, participants explored essential topics such as vocal production, breathing techniques, posture, and vocal health.

The workshop’s interactive segments were particularly well-received, with students participating in vocal exercises and receiving personalized feedback. The presence of participants from multiple institutions added to the dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences, enriching the overall learning atmosphere.

KLCO’s collaboration with UPSI underscored their dedication to nurturing vocal talent and raising awareness about vocal health among Malaysia’s aspiring singers. The workshop emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy voice for both professional and personal use.

The success of this Vocal Health Workshop highlights the importance of partnerships in promoting cultural appreciation and artistic growth. With over 20 participants and overwhelmingly positive feedback, the event has already sparked interest in future workshops, ensuring continued engagement and education in vocal health and performance techniques.
